XYZNet and XYZNet Limited

 XYZNet: a Web Based Business Opportunity

Or should it be An Internet Based Business Opportunity. This website, or rather the domain plus the British company XYZNet Limited,  offers opportunities to form the foundation of an extensive business.  The domain name suggests wide ranging interest areas, is sufficiently neutral to encompass all types of businesses from fine art to the city. It could be used  as a hosting website with attraction for affiliation because of its generality or/and as a website design company that could undertake a wide range of assignments for individual as well as corporate clients.

Sub Domains

Any domain can be used to provide a virtually unlimited number of customers with a web presence by setting up a sub domain. For example: fineantiques.xyznet.co.uk, bmwcars.xyznet.co.uk, chinawholesale.xyznet.co.uk In fact any name could be used as the sub domain, unless the name is is use as trademark. So many desirable domain names have been purchased years ago but by creating a sub domain your customers may use their prefered website name. Sub domains do not incur a registration charge and although the savings may seem modest for a small number of sub domains if the accounting and adminstrative costs are included the costs soon mount up. The main problem is having a good domain name to start with, a name that is of high generality XYZNet is of high generality and is discussed below.

The Character of the Domain Name XYZNet

The "Net" part of the domain name is quite general and is the term used to catch or contain and is almost interchangeable with the term "Web". XYZ

(I have XYZWeb.co.uk and the associated limited company)  The "XYZ" part of the domain name is the standard mathematical term for variables and therefore has a power to stand for virtually any business or organisation. One example is http://www.xyzmachinetools.com/index.cfm/machinetools/Categories.Home here the term is used to convey generality, the company sells all types of machine tools -new and second hand, but also the relationship of modern computer controlled machines to the Cartesian XYZ system.   XYZ also has several other connotations for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XYZ  A www.google.com search results in almost one million references to XYZ as being a widely used term used in indexes -that is reference locations which are used to search for something.  The term has thus a highly functional effectiveness  but not a clearly understood meaning.

The History of the Acquisition of  XYZNet

XYZNet was acquired as a strong domain name for setting up a web based hosting and creative business along with other domain names incorporating XYZ.  Part of the rationale involved the relationship between the term "XYZ" and the descriptive function of those letters in three-dimensional design as I am interested in this area, having designed several hundred model objects representing real world structures that could be used in education for teaching and learning the nature of engineering drawing and spatial concepts.  This interest arose out of an MPhil research project

XYZNet Limited is a British Company

To accompany the domain XYZNet.co.uk I formed a limited company.  The company and the domain name thus form a very viable business opportunity for an enterprising individual or company. I have realised that I have more domains than I actually need and the main thrust of my own and family business internet activity does not require two generic web domains and limited companies.  I could therefore, either develop XYZNet as a business and then offer it for sale with the limited company or refrain from any further development and offer XYZNet as a package. At present I have decided to do the latter.

Having control of a limited company offers certain advantages.  It should be easier to raise funds and operating as a limited company often gives suppliers and customers a sense of confidence in a business. Quite often, larger organisations in particular, will prefer not to deal with non-limited businesses.

First and foremost, the principal benefit of trading via a limited company has always been the limited liability bestowed upon the company's officers and shareholders. As a sole trader or other non-limited business, personal assets can be at risk in the event of a failure of the business, but this is not the case for a limited company. As long as the business is operated legally and within the terms of the Companies Act, directors’ or shareholders’ personal assets are not at risk in the event of a winding up or receivership.
